Network split over physical locations joined with a NetGear VPN Router. One subnet is 192.168.1.xxx while the other is 192.168.2.xxx. All computers on the .1 and .2 sides of the net can ping each other and every computer/device on the either subnet except for one computer. This one computer, on the .2 side, can be pinged from any computer on the .2 side, but from no computer on the .1 side.

All computers are XPPro- current on all updates.

I have turned off the firewall - no help.

All computers / devices are static IPs. Changing the IP address has no effect. So I suspect there are no IP specific filters floating around anywhere.

The problem computer seems to otherwise work fine except for inability to ping it and perform certain other network linking functions from the .1 side of the network. Everything works fine from the .2 side.

Interestingly enough, I CAN remoteDesktop to the problem computer from either of the subnet.

I have compared the properties pages betwenn working computers and the disfunctional computer and see no obvious problems.

All pinging is being done with IP address.

Any suggestions on what to try next much appreciated.

If you can remote desktop, then ping is of no use. You know the connection works!

Put firewalls back on.
Start with ipconfig /all
See help and suppport center. Network diagnositic may shed some light on it.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.
