When you try to connect to a shared folder on another
computer you are being asked for Username and Password.
In order to avoid this, the simplest thing to do is to create a user account on the ‘target’ PC. Here’s what to do.
First, I’m going to give you three imaginary PC’s that are in a LAN.
PC1
Shared folder = Yes
Shared folder name = sharepc1
Username = John
Password = PaSsWorD
PC2
Shared folder = No
Username = Tina
Password = pAsSwORd
PC3
Shared folder = No
Username = Dad
Password = PasSWorD
You wish to have PC2 and PC3 connect to the share on PC1.
What to do:
On PC1 create two user accounts. Give the first one the following information:
Username = Tina
Password = pAsSwORd
And give the second user account the following information:
Username = Dad
Password = PasSWorD
Now add both user accounts the ACL on the share “sharepc1” (The Security tab) and grant appropriate access (ie: read/write, read only, etc)
Now when either user goes to connect, they will not be asked to login.
