Do you only have one user on your Windows 95 or 98 computer but it always asks you to logon? Well if you are like myself and only have one user and don't want to logon every time, there is a very easy way to disable that message box from appearing.
N.B. If you are using TweakUI, you must set it not to "Clear Last User at logon" under the "Paranoia" tab.
Step one. The first thing that you need to do is click on the start button and open up the
control panels. If Windows 98 tells you that you shouldn't use the control panels unless
you know what you are doing, click ok to show the control panels. Screenshot of this step
Step two. Now that you have the control panels open, double click on the control panel
called Network. Screenshot of this step
Step three. In the network control panel change the primary network logon to Windows Logon. Screenshot of this step
Step four. Click OK and restart your computer.
There you go! Windows shouldn't ask you to provide a logon anymore. However, if it does than you should also perform the following steps:
Go into the the passwords control panel following the steps listed above to obtain a control panel listing. Once there, go into the change password tab and select change windows password. Type in your old password and leave the new one and the new confirmation one blank. Go to the user profiles tab and ensure that the "All users of this PC use the same preferences and desktop settings" radio box is selected. That should resolve your problem.
