I bought a DVD-RW drive and went to install it and it is a SATA not IDE. IS there a converter or adapter I can get to hook this up without havingf to return it?

There are adapters available but I would not recommend using one. Besides they are fairly costly. Below is one link, you can Google for more.

You could install a PCI based controller card to run it but again I wouldn't recommend it.

About the same price as a pci to sata controller card. $12 with everything you need.

If you have a spare pci slot I'd get the pci adapter. Could be a bit faster than ide.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

It still going to top out at 66mb regardless because that's the max rate of a Rom device, which is why i don't understand why he got an SATA Rom.

I suspect he didn't realise he was getting the wrong drive, and the salesperson probably didn't bother to ask if he had a sata connection.

If you bought the drive locally why not just return it. How much did you pay and what drive did you buy. You could buy an IDE DVD burner for $30/35 shipped online.
