CPU/Ram: 1.8ghz/767mb
Model/Manufacturer: Dell Dimension 2350
Comment:
My computer was running fine, my daughters boyfriend was on MySpace and it just rebooted out of nowhere. When it came back up, it said insert system disk and press F1 or F2 for setup...no bootable disk. He was on the XP hard drive. I tried to boot up the Xubuntu hard drive ( it was not in the computer when it shut down) and it says the same thing. It's reading both hard drives in the bios but won't boot. I have tried using the live cd and the menu comes up and tries to boot. I get the live cd menu, the cd tries to boot but then stops. I am running a memory test right now and so far so good. The green light on the motherboard is on and the light on the hard drive does blink. I replaced the PSU about 3 months ago.

Thanks for any help.

I hadn't tried that. I put the Xubuntu drive in and since it didn't boot either was thinking it's not the hard drives. Will try that and post back.

Should I do a system restore? Also, I would like to make a copy of this hard drive since I don't have the cd's for office anymore. (they were damaged) Do I clone the hard drive?

You might consider a ntbackup with system state to protect your data.

Not sure if a clone will help that much.

Start with a chkdsk.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

It is too bad most folks evidently don't know it is perfectly legal to make backup copies of any software they own.

As jefro suggested some type of backup or image is preferable to a cloned disk.
