OS: XP
CPU/Ram: P4 - 2.6 Ghz
Model/Manufacturer: VIAO
Comment:

I recently inherited this approx. 3 year old VIAO (maybe a little older - it has a floppy drive, along with a CD & DVD burner, and only Sony card reader slot).

I have learned that the VIAO came with "on-board" memory. The motherboard is capable of PCI and PCI Express cards (do not know off the top of my head if AGP - I am not at home to look).

I have also upgraded my video card from my HP a350y from a nVIDIA GeForce 440 (I think - also about 3 or so years old) to a AGP card (capable of dual digital outs).

My question is: can I use this GeForce card in the VIAO and if so, would it be faster/better?

To get it running, is it as simple as going to the nVIDIA website to downloading the driver for this card?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance.
Tony

No. Your Viao supports PCI Express which replaced AGP. So the Nvidia 440 AGP will not work.

Out of curiosity, is PCI Express much better than AGP??? Noticeably?

Thank you

"Out of curiosity, is PCI Express much better than AGP??? Noticeably?"

If you have two cards that are exactly the same in every way except that one is AGP & the other is PCI-e, there's little or no performance difference. However, all the technology is being dumped into PCI-e cards & AGP has been left out in the cold. The vast majority of new cards are PCI-e only & any decent AGP cards that are still being produced are much more expensive.
