After checking Asus Probe and my bios readings, I've decided its time to get fans for my computer. My motherboard idles around 42C, which isn't very good. My cpu actually idles 2 degrees cooler then the board!

However, my question is about my case (unknown brand). Now there is a place to put an exhaust fan in the back under the PSU and one on the side but, although the inside of the front bottom of the case has a spot designed for an intake fan, the outside of the front of the case is completely blocked by the front cover where the power buttons and two usb ports are located.

Should I replace the case? Should I take apart the front bottom of the case so I can install a fan (which I don't think I could do without ripping it apart, plus the USB ports are right there) or will just the exhaust fan in the back plus an intake one on the side be enough?

ATI AIW 9800 Pro

I highly doubt your board is hotter than your CPU...more than likely, your temp readings are in error. See if there's a BIOS update available for your board.

As for case cooling fans, all you really need is an exhaust fan in the rear. Side panel fans are disruptive & the need for front intake fans is questionable. I suggest you read the AMD Builder's Guide:

Thanks, I'll check for an update on my bios because the bios readings are currently the same as asus probe is reporting, and get an exhaust fan. I'll also check out the link you provided.

I've always wondered why, when looking at current cases, even high end ones, that many don't have a spot on the front bottom for an intake fan if its so important for circulation. Your answer helps clarify that.

I've also ordered a 400watt Sparkle PSU which has a larger fan, hopefully that will also help.

The fun on PSU is used only for the PSU, not the rest of the compnents.

as far as case is concerned, better get the biggest case you can affort. then you will have lots of space inside to allow better heat exchaust.

"The fun on PSU is used only for the PSU, not the rest of the compnents."

Nonsense - - that 'fun' provides exhaust to the chassis as well - in fact, at one time that was the only ventilation provided or required (in the 386 era)
