1st you need to determine which one you have, then you need to get the latest BIOS. Even if you can overclock with that board, I wouldn't expect too much. VIA based are notorious for not having a PCI/AGP lock, so your FSB limit would be about 150MHz before the PCI/AGP go too far out of spec.
The Palomino isn't a great overclocking CPU & it tends to run hot due to it's high default voltage (1.75v). You can safely increase the voltage to 1.85v if necessary, provided you have adequate cooling. You'd also need PC2700 RAM (DDR333). At best, you're probably looking at 1.725GHz (11.5 x 150MHz). If you have PC2100 (DDR266), your results will be lower.
hello again and thank you for your time, i was using an emachines..but it died and i did some work for a friend and he gave me a pc with amd athlon xp 1100 (1.10ghz) and it has the asus a7n8x-x and a geforce fx 5200 graphics card. it wasnt that great, so i took the processor off my emachines amd athlon xp 1800+ ( which this pc had a l7vmm rev:1.0 motherboard (dont know anything about this mb or if its any better than the asus i have )and a geforce mx 4400 card) anyway i put the 1800+ processor on my new pc and it read correct when it loaded and read 1533mhz( i googled but didnt find any info if i needed drivers or anything else to download with the cpu swap, and it runs fine so i left alone) i have an entire list of info, but uncertian to what exactly you need to know and i dont want to bother you with listing everything if its not needed. ive been playin with it, doing different procedure's ive read online, but you seem to know the most or the best way to adjust my set-up..even tho i was told to do some other or oppisite things than you have said...but after the headaches..im strictly going by your expertise now.(pat yourself on the back for knowing your shiat..lol) if i didnt have a 1148.12 dollar monthly child support payment i'd make a donation(if thats whats its still called) now then, here's some info i have about my pc now.: asustek inc pc asus a7n8x-x motherboard rev 2.xx 1006 family-6 model-6 stepping-2 ext.family-7 ext.model-6 revision a5 clock core spd 1681.0mhz multi-11.5 bus spd 146.2mhz rated fsb 292.3 mhz L1 data 64byts L1 inst. 64byts Level2 256 bytes. chipset nforce2 400 rev.C1 southbridge nforce mcp (cupid read it this way?)
