Comment:
i would like to overclock my cpu, memory, and video card. i was wondering what would the best settings be for my computer as of what i have now. i would like to keep my cpu frequency at 240 and my multiplier at x11. here are my current settings for my cpu, memory, and video card.

CPU Configuration:
CPU frenquency - 240
PCI express clock - 100mhz
DDR voltage - 2.60V
Chipset voltage - +1.5V
HT voltage - +1.2V
CPU multiplier - x11
CPU voltage - 1.400V
PCI clock synchronization mode - auto

Memory Configuration:
Memclock index value - 266mhz
CAS# latency - 3
Min RAS# active time - 6T
RAS# to CAS# delay - 3T
Row precharge time - 3T
Row cycle time - 16T
Row refresh cycle time - 18T
Read-to-write time - 6T
Write recovery time - 2T
1T/2T memory timing - 2T

Video Card Configuration:
Core clock frequency - 500mhz
Memory clock frequency - 2.0ghz

We have no idea which CPU you have, which board, which RAM, which video card, etc.

Post your system specs.

On the one hand you state you would like to overclock your CPU, memory & graphics card. But on the other hand you also state "i would like to keep my cpu frequency at 240 and my multiplier at x11" -- which just so happen to be your current setting for the CPU based on your other statement.

So, what gives - huh?

1st of all, why limit the CPU freq to 240MHz? IMO, you should go for at least 250MHz.

And why is your "Memclock index value" set to 266? With the CPU freq at 240MHz & the RAM set at 266, the resulting RAM freq would be approx 155MHz (DDR310). If you set it to 333, the resulting RAM freq would be approx 188MHz (DDR376).

If you set the CPU freq to 250MHz & set the "Memclock index value" to 333, the CPU would run at 2.75GHz & the RAM would then run at approx 196MHz (DDR392).

********************************

Your RAM timings are awfully loose...you should tighten them up for better peformance.

CAS# latency - 2.5
Min RAS# active time - 7T
RAS# to CAS# delay - 3T
Row precharge time - 3T

1T/2T memory timing - 1T

The others I'm not all that familiar with.

*********************************

"Video Card Configuration:
Core clock frequency - 500mhz
Memory clock frequency - 2.0ghz"

The reference specs for a 6600GT PCI-e are 500MHz/500MHz (DDR1000). How do you expect to get the memory clock up to 2.0GHz?

i like to keep it at 2.64ghz, at default it runs at 2.21ghz. those were the only two things i turned up cpu frequency and multiplier to get 2.64ghz. and i was just wondering about my other settings maybe change them so it can run better with that 2.64ghz i dont know thats why im asking if i should change anything else to make it better. i dont really wanna push it too much so thats why i want it at 2.64ghz. for the memory index value i didnt set it like that it was like that already also for the video card, i am posting what i see only and what it says i didnt change anything else. i remember seeing the memory clock at 1ghz but now its at 2ghz i dont know why i didnt touch anything somehow it was just like that and i also defaulted it still at 2.0ghz.

"i like to keep it at 2.64ghz...."

I don't think you are going to get it *significantly* any higher than that anyhow. So if you can implement the fine-tuning suggested by jam, then that's great.

Dude, you asked for suggestions...what you do with them is up to you. What I'm trying to tell you is your CPU & memory settings are all screwed up. With the CPU freq at 240MHz & the memclock index value at 266, your DDR400 RAM is only running as DDR310...in other words, it's 22.5% under speed. To correct it, raise the CPU freq to 250MHz & change the memclock index value to 333. If that's not something you're willing to do, there's no point in discussing it any further...you apparently aren't familiar with how the A64 is overclocked.

Maybe you need to read up on the topic:

http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=ge...

http://www.diy-street.com/forum/sho...

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/arti...

And I highly doubt your 6600GT is running the memory at 2.0GHz. The default settings are 500MHz for the GPU clock & 500MHz for the memory clock.

http://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/14...

The memory is DDR so the speed is usually referred to as 1000MHz even though the actual clock setting is 500MHz. The "pros" were only getting an extra 100MHz +/- out of the memory clock...that puts the DDR speed at roughly 1200MHz.

Sorry i have no advice on this subject, but am interested on how you get all this information? how would i be able to get the information Tommie has about Ram timings and memclockindex values? i have wanted to OC my comp for ages but never have coz i have no idea how to do it.

yes i am not that familiar with the amd processors but i appreciate your help and stuff. you are suggesting i get 2.75ghz cpu frequency 250mhz by x11 multiplier and changing all the other stuff to what you said. i am not saying that i wont try it i will try it soon. the settings you said are best at 2.75ghz so i was just wondering what settings would it be best at 2.40ghz and 2.64ghz for the stuffs like cpu voltage, ddr voltage, chipset voltage, ht voltage, all the memory settings, video card settings etc. etc..

jam,

That particular CPU is highy unlikely to hit 250MHz. That was the point of my response #6.

There is no harm in trying, but my concern is with the OP loosing all the work put in so far, if in the process of aggressively pushing his overclock he ends up needing to reset or clear his CMOS.

Well, it's obvious that the OP doesn't know what he's doing, but the 3500+ will run at 2.75GHz (11 x 250MHz) or even higher when in the hands of an experienced overclocker:

should i just leave my pci express clock at 100mhz or anything higher then that and my pci clock synchronization mode to either auto, to cpu, or 33.33mhz?.
