I recently upgraded my ZA Pro version 2.6 to version 3.0 on my XP machine. Now, my computer takes much, much longer to boot (in excess of 4 minutes). Also, Norton Antivirus now loads disabled (x through the icon in the task bar) by default. I've tried defragging and BootVis, but no luck. Any suggestions?

I don't have a problem with XP taking too long to load with ZA Pro. Perhaps you have too many things starting up and it is taking ZA some time to check the privileges of each? I also get the X through NAV sometimes, not always. I find even with the X that it is still enabled and after a few seconds of being online it rights itself. I have done some research to see if I could find any conflicts or suggestions, but haven't been able. Mostly a restart gets the NAV set again I think it has something to do with the true vector of ZA not loading correctly.

Ben, you may want to download Boot.vis form Microsoft - it will help in optimizing your boot/shutdown times and will also trace your start up programs so you can see what is taking so long to initiate.

maybe it has to do with how much memory you have and the speed of your cpu and how many things you have in your task bar at start up

Thanks for the suggestions:
Mary- the problem only began when I upgraded to ZA Pro v3.0. With v2.6, I didn't have this problem
JRF- unfortunately I've already tried BootVis, to no avail
Joshua- with ZA Pro v3.0, the X on my Norton icon never changes over until I manually enable Norton by right-clicking on the icon
Ben

Ben - I am just about to install v.3 Did you close down the previous version to install? I always uninstall the previous version, not install over top. I will report back tomorrow any/or not anomalies I find.
Joshua NAV doesn't always load with an X Something on the system causes this, it is not the normal way to load.

Norton Antivirus 2002 and the original Zone Alarm don't play well together at all. Mommy Hurt Baby. Delete one or the other and quikrestore to better days. The "read me" of Norton says so and to use Pro. This was before v3.0. You may have to choose. Both are great at what they do but both are tempermental and sometimes mess up computers. zOrG love XP!!!!!!

I have had no similar problems and I run bth Z/A Pro 3.0 and NAV 2002. Boot.vis did change things so that I can start programs before Z/A and NAV are fully initialized; however, it is still a minute or so before both are ready. My NAV starts with the X but does change by itself after initialization. One difference - I am running XP HE, not Pro.
It only takes about 50 seconds from the initial Windows XP splash screen until I am able to launch a program.
One possibility - in the ZA instructions for upgrading to XP, there are some suggestions on the Zone Labs web site about files you may need to remove manually and even some registry keys you may need to update. Have you tried those?

Ben, I have used Norton AV with ZA 2.6 362 and ZA 3.0 - Both have run flawlessly with XP Pro; I have also tried ZA with AVG and F-Secure (both AV's) and have had great results. I would recommend uninstalling both Nortons and ZA then goto ZA's support page and make certain as Richard indicates to delete all ZA remnants from registry(try regcleaner), windows system files, and windows internet log files. Reinstall ZA then Norton and see how it goes. I have uninstalled ZA3 and returned to 2.6 as it has a smaller footprint and runs more efficiently for me. Lastly, goto msconfig and weed out unnecessary startup programs (quicken billminder, outlook mgr etc.) Hope this helps.

I installed ZA 3 last night and have been up and down all day while doing some upgrades etc. Do you have a license for ZA. I found once I put in my license number things went along a little quicker. ZA3 and NAV 2002 seem to have no problem. I find XP on a network is a little slow. I turn on and go get a drink or something so I don't notice how long it takes LOL
