Ok, so I have probably installed spyware (download accelerator, Audigalaxy) but I have also installed adaware and kept it upto date. Why then, when working offline in word or playing a game do I get a message saying something along the lines of "you or a program have requested information from the following location" and ask if I want to use my default connection they are always websites such as stvalue click and I have the setting to "do not dial a connection. I have done a deep scan using adaware 5.8 but all that seems to find are cookies - which I remove. If it comes to it I will rip out audiogalaxy and Download accelarator but would like to know what the actual program is that is requesting access. I have zonealarm installed and that doesnt seem to get involved in the process. Has anybody experienced this? Does anyone know a fix?
I am running an uptodate install of XP home edition. Thanks

Perhaps turning off Auto Update would help. Also, look in IE6 Tools/Internet Options/Advanced tab. See if 'Enable Install on demand(Internet Explorer)' is checked.

umm, if it's requesting info from 25.0.0.0 you might have the Klez virus - look on symantec for the removal tool - you can confirm that by pressing cntl-alt-del - on my system the virus suppressed it.
hope you don't

I dont think that I have the Klez virus. I have Norton antivirus 2002 and have run a full scan each week (with updated virus files. Would Klez request information from St Value Click? (what ever that is)
I have also been to www.pcflank.com and ran their trojan checker (not sure how good this is) but is says I'm clean. However, their is a program that wants to dial my default connection and I dont know what it is. I think that I will uninstall all "free software" and see if this request stops bothering me.
Free software seems to cost more than its worth :-)
Thanks guys

U have the netstat command that will allow you to monitor all connections to/from your PC. Alternatively you can go for Kerio Personal Firewall (free for personal use) which will do the same with a nice GUI and is far better than ZA anywayz.
