I just built a new machine for my brother, and everything seems to be working fine. However in the Device Manager under "Other Devices" there is a yellow exclamation over "PCI Device." I have no idea what it's referring to. The sound card and wireless adapter are accounted for and have their drivers. The video card is a PCI-e and has its drivers. There are no other cards in the machine. When I hit "update driver" Windows can't find any drivers for it.
Is there any other way to find out what device this is referring to?
Thanks in advance.

It could be about anything...pci is actually all ports that are used on a computer ...mouse...keyboard...midi game port...telephone modem etc... etc... etc...or it could be a part of one of the other pieces of hardware like your sound card that didn't get the driver installed...
You mentioned that your graphics is a PCI-e does the mobo also have an AGP port for the graphics card. If so it may need to be disabled to remove it from device manager.
Normally the operating system will not install sound card drivers or only a generic one. make sure that the correct driver is installed for the card.
There are a few programs out there that may be able to identify it...belarc advisor or SIW are two good ones...but without the drivers to identify it ...I don't know.

As an add to the above:...check to see if there is an extra NIC card/port for networking. If you are using the one that is built in to the mobo along with an add-on card it may be that or even a RAID controller that the drivers WERE installed but the hardware can't be found will also cause the same reaction. In the case of the RAID drivers...remove them from the add/remove or where you update the drivers in device manager...you can just disable it!

Usually if you follow your motherboard manual in association with their driver CD then all on-board hardware will be configured.
You say that all additional hardware is accounted for and have their own drivers and that there are are no other cards in there. That leads me to suggest that you have either left out an on-board device driver or misconfigured it.
Sometimes on-board drivers also need to be updated from the manufacturesrs website. So its worth checking there for driver updates.I also assume that you have also installed all the associated chipset drivers (e.g. via/hyperion drivers for via based motherboard or intel inf for intel based motherboards, etc).
It would have been useful to know what motherboard model your query is about to be able to better answer questions about on-board devices.

One last thing to note is that you probably haven't attempted to use ALL the hardware that may be integrated into the MBoard. Firewire, IR port, parallel and serial ports, USB. These are just some of the possibilities.
You need to install the MBoard chipset drivers and possibly Video, sound, network, etc.

Thanks for all the suggestions. It may have been the onboard audio. I installed those drivers and it went away. Hopefully I disabled it properly so there won't be conflicts with the audio card.
thanks again

OnChip Audio Controller or OnChip ( whatever ) in maybe Advanced Chipset Features or Integrated Peripherals in the Bios is what you disable, Refer your manual for detail.

Found the Audio Controller in the Bios and disabled it.
All exclamation points are gone.
thank you
