so a firend is having trouble getting the acutal games applet to load. she had java instaleld and got this error "Error loading text: java.net.SocketException: Unexpected end of file from server" so she did an update of java and still got the same error. so then she deleted java and installed microsoft java virtual machine build 3805 and got this error "Error loading text: java.io.IOEsception: yog78.games.scd.yahoo.com:80//yog/y/e/us-t1.Idict" same error after update to build 3810. also tried disabling firewall and nothing and the same happens. she is at college. could this be cause by the college's network and is there a work around for it or does anyone have any other ideas we can try? thanks for your help

As far as I know, It is possible for the college firewalls to block java aplications, however, it would block everyone, not just one person. Is she the only one?
Also, what version was the original Java Program? I would use the Sun Microsystem's Java Program. www.java.com
Also, if she can't get into the games via Java, she should be able to get into them via the HTML protocol instead of the Java Protocol.
Hope this Helps!

tried java.com and it didnt help. whats the html protocol thing you mentioned? and im not sure if she the only one or not but i'll find out.

when loading the yahoo games, I just used chess to make sure the option was still available. it pops up with "Wait 3 minutes for applet to load... Click here if applet fails to load." in a green bar just above where it is trying to load the game. Try clicking that. It should allow you to get into a html version of the game.
Hope that helps!

i tried that. didnt work. had her try this on another friends computer. looks like its because of a proxy server but i had her email the college to see about it.

apperently the college installed some kind of software so that the students cant play xbox over the internet becuase they say it slowsdown the internet to much. so i guess this also blocks a bunch of other online games too. thanks for your help
