If you have read the following thread ...

http://computing.net/windowsxp/wwwb...

.. you will know I've been criticized by some of you that either have not until today posted or that you have posted every once in a while. This is not the first time. There has been several occasion like that but this one people jump in to stir up the criticisam.

I want you all to know that I have had it. I am ready to move on to someplace else. I don't expect you to nor do you have to reply because after a long time here at CN, a very few of you have actually expressed your personal appreciations for the time and consideration I gave to the problems you had.

Good luck to all.

Happy computing!

XPUser I share your frustration. I too have been here for a long time and been called many things over the years. I post rarely now and have essentially moved on because of all the things you stated in your post and more. I will continue to look into this forum occassionally but not often.

Good luck to you.

Well XPUser I think you moving else where would be a big loss to CN. For people who have been a long time member of CN we all know where your real strengths/expertise are & this I will really miss.

Some things are really simple & I have asked questions which I have been told to google even though I have already of done so. People sometimes need the confidence to carry out instructions on a manual but they are paranoid they will break their PC or new router.

At the end of the day were all different & don't leave CN just from a few nasty posts

Turn it off, wait a while, turn it back on again.

Hi XpUser,

Sorry to read about your decision.

If there is any chance to disuade you then I would say forget all those people who do not understand or appreciate the free advice that is given in this forum.

If it gives you satisfaction than it is good enough reason to continue.

I have read your posts and can honestly say that you have played a significant role in this forum.

All the best in whatever you decide.

If things are really that bad, why not leave without the swansong & tearful farewell?

Forum life requires a degree of skin thickening - if you can't do that, well, godspeed then

Forgive me, but I see these little episodes for what they are - self indulgent bids for attention, and I've seen more than a few here - hell, this isn't even the first time you've sworn to leave

Almost invariably there is a return (perhaps under a different name)

good luck & fare thee well

I haven't been here as long as some of the others but during the time I have been year I have grown to respect a number of the regulars here. You are definately on that list. I think we all get frustrated sometimes but there is a reason you respond to posts here. You get satisfaction out of helping folks. It's like when you let someone out of the sidestreet and cut in front of you. Sometimes they lack common courtesy and don't acknowledge your gesture. That doesn't stop you from doing it the next time. Because you practice the Golden rule. Do unto others. My personal peeve here is the poster that never comes back after the initial post. I am rambling now. If you leave you will be missed.

I visit this site everyday. Sometimes I reply to a question someone asks, but not very often. I was told once (or twice) not to reply to a question unless you know the answer. I can see the logic in this and now I am hesitant to reply to many inquiries. I'm a professional carpenter that has a love and curiosity about computers. I have learned many things from you and would like to continue. You can't take everything to heart. Some people have a vast knowledge of computers and some don't. That's why we come here. I do not agree with per on this. It is a little unfair to lure Justin into the thread just to ambush him. Astroturfing may be a tactical move that's acceptable in politics but on forums like this such an act is disingenuous on the face on it. What do you want the man to do - pick sides in a heartbeat? On almost all issues an administrator/owner of any site this popular has to be *real* diplomatic & scrutinize himself so that his actions are not misconstrued.

You could have exclusively sent him a PM or something of that nature if you feel so strongly about sampling his personal opinion on XPUser's contemplation. As you can clearly see - his involvement or lack thereof is already stirring up its own little controversy..........LOL

In the last 24 hours, there was a grave trajedy in Virginia that possibly implicate our gun laws & a topic this trivial is what is getting our blood boiling? Say a prayer for those families will ya.

Let me just say one more thing, if you actually read XpUser's post, he talks about being criticized by lots of different people at different times.

What is wrong with my management? That I don't ban everyone who ever says anything wrong? If that were the case, I'd have to have banned almost everyone involved in this thread at one time or another (myself included!).

Besides which, if I remember correctly, almost all your complaints to me before about management have been with the removal of threads. That isn't related at all to XpUser's problem. I think you are combining things that are somewhat unrelated.

It's been a while now, the guy is obviously gone... Some might say too bad others might just have a party...

It's weird how Sabertooth remembered mattie just like I did. I too was wondering where he is. Last I remember I went off to the university of texas at austin and the guy was in his heydays.

At times it seemed that mattie & xpuser made a good team replying & what not...lol often they would even gang up on me. I remember mostly Sabertooth always having my back as well as others. Thanks Sabertooth.

per seems to not want to let go. I hear you per/understand you trying to make weber do something so that xpuser does not leave. don't worry per he'll be back. he has to. it's in his blood. when he does I'll bet you'll see him first. just let the rest of us know will ya?

it's that old wear & tear feeling when you have answered the same $$$$ question for the billionth time and you wonder if people have even attempted to fix their issues themselves or searched for the answer before even posting like lazy.

Jennifer you have to say something. I mean, the guy was/is our collegue here. I would be here sitting as well if you left or sabertooth. To think of it where are you JenniferSUMN?

I remember seeing Kevin The Tech Dude not just on this forum but others as well. He was/is still highly regarded as savvy when it comes to computers. if anyone could bring him back it should be him. Hell, it'd be great if we would get both of them back.

But let's be realistic. I'm probably one of the reasons why XpUser left. I too was hard on him. He probably thought I hated him. I didn't. I respect him. I'm angry at myself. If only I could have not been so hard on him in the past.

should I flirt a little with being selfish? should I start a "walkout" until he returns? what about real people with real computer problems? what to do? I should just accept that he left.

let's all remember that at least he had a really big laugh when he typed. "ROTFL" because of what soupnasty said.

Next time I RTFM I guarantee I'll think of the "old fart" like Sabertooth calls him. And smile.

I never thought my supposedly final thread would draw tremendous responses from so many users, old & new alike, including Justin.

I took every posts including the private e-mail from Justin to heart. I then asked myself: Are you sure you want to go someplace else and start over again from the ground up especially when you are not young any more? The answer is that I really am not looking forward to do it. You may think of me as an old dog, or better yet an old fart as the good Sabertooth says.

I think the right thing for me to do is give it another chance but avoid saying anything that produce unpleasant consequences.

So here I am back with you all. Lastly but not least important of all, I want to express my heartfelt gratitudes to each and every one of you, friend & foe alike, for the overwhelming support you have extended to me.

Now let's get back to business of helping others as well as sharing our knowledge that further the cause for better computing experience.

From one long-time contributor to another (I've been hanging in CN since Windows 98 was released) I'm glad to hear you're not leaving.

I've had my share of criticism and frustration just like you, and others. But as a professional working in industry, that's just par for the course right. If I only had a dollar for every annoying user I've had to deal with, I could retire......a year or two back! LOL

For those of you that don't contribute anything positive....someone pointed out above how tiring it can get answering the same questions endlessly for people who either don't know how to find the answers themselves (those I help as best I can and have even gone so far as to take it to email and even at times, write up step-by-step guides) or the ones that are too LAZY to do it themselves. The second type tend to get RTFM and "Google is your friend" type answers (typical case here: http://www.computing.net/networking/wwwboard/forum/31522.html)

If you're a member of the "peanut gallery" who watch, read and wait for an opportunity to point out a regular posters mistake (yes, we all make them), or just pick at him because you don't like how he answered a question (or questions) feel free to step up to the plate and start helping people out yourselves. I've noticed some of the worst critic's are people I've never seen post any kind of helpful reply. I'm not sure what's up with that and truly don't understand that mindset myself, but, I don't let them worry me. Small things amuse small minds.

Ignore the people with nothing positive to contribute. Even as a seasoned professional with 15 years in industry under my belt, I still learn things here from you and others like you. That's one of the reasons I stick around....to help people, which I enjoy doing, and to learn. Which I also enjoy doing.

As another one of the old-timers here at CN, I remember when you (NYC), Per (California), and me (Florida) would sometimes team up to help users in the XP forum. We joked about the large geographical triangle because of the distances that separated us, yet vastly compressed by the Internet.

Not having logged on to CN in a while, I was a bit startled tonight to see your initial post about leaving CN, then pleased of course that you changed your mind.

Snarky comments come with forum territory; you, per, and I endured it over five years ago.

But what was true then is true now: Sarcasm is inversely proportional to a person's real knowledge about a subject. Criticism for its own sake is usually a mask for someone's ignorance. You're head and shoulders above those who post such comments. Ignore them, knowing that the majority of forum members can see through the drivel.

By the way, how are things in NYC? 8-)

Sincerely, Solarian

PS Four years? Seems more like five. Jeez! Besides getting old, I hope I'm not becoming senile as well.

So... staying after all? (heh - who could've foreseen that?)

I'm glad you've come to your senses, after all of this angsty handwringing - I guess you just needed to be 'coaxed' back into the fold(?)

These things resemble eulogies, with nothing but kind words for the dearly (or, in this case, 'nearly') departed

I suppose it's cheaper than therapy

Hi Solarian it's great to see you posting again. Oh yes I vividly recall our banding together day in day out. Another memories I cherished is our "Bermuda Triangle," and my common grounds with per from our days in the aerospace business. Anyway I sincerely hope you'll drop in every once in a while.

jboy - no one coaxed me back into the fold. It was the outpour of support from so many of you that touched me. Where else beside CN would I feel at home in a family-like kind of atmosphere, ya know :-)

Well, I did say you'd be back - - although I was wrong (you never actually left)

Y'know (& fwiw), I do think you're a good poster, but given this emotional deluge, one might think you had higher qualifications

At any rate, if you "don't sweat the small stuff" you will (probably) be fine - a little perspective goes a long way

I too came here about four years ago, and I picked up some HTML from the thread in which you did.
I'm glad you decided to stay. What I and many more have learnt from you (and others) here is priceless. Thanks from all users in Sweden.

Anyone see "The Wizard of Oz" (1938)?
I believe the quote from Judy Garland was:
"My, things come and go so fast around here".

For elderly Brits and historians:
"I go, I come back"
(catch phrase from WWII radio show - ITMA).

It's good my grandad told me about these ....

... hey - it's not just 'ordinary' sainthood - - it's cyber sainthood! (accept no substitutes)

Stay or go - - it's a personal decision, really.

Call me old fashioned, but it's not the kind of thing I'd hold a referendum over. If the cons outweigh the pros, I don't see where indecisiveness comes into play, and neither choice needs to be writ in stone

(this must be the equivalent to a 'slow news day')
