I just got a Verizon Sierra wireless PCMCIA AirCard for internet connection - it is working okay with Win XP Home. I tried to network to a Win98SE desktop with cross-over cable, and the first time I tried it it screwed up the AirCard settings. So I reinstalled AirCard, and then it worked and the 2 computers could see each other OK, and I transfered files. Some dubious changes took place under Control Panels/Network Connections, though, where it no longer said "Express Network 1xRT" (which it should say for the Verizon Sierra AirCard) but just "Local Connection 4", but things were working. [Note: "Express Network" has always ALSO erroneously appeared under "Dial-Up Connections" (it should only appear under "LAN or High-Speed Internet") - but I decided not to worry as long as things were working. But this morning I shut both computers down when I went out, and when I started them up again this afternoon, neither computer can see the other, no matter how many times I restart them, no matter which order I turn them on. I had a similar problem months ago when I was using a dial-up connection - things worked right after I ran the wizards, but if I shut down my computers and restarted them, the network wouldn't work. So I stopped trying to have a network. But I'm tired of not getting my money's worth out of these computers! I could try leaving my machines on indefinitely, but I know that will bother me - I want to be in charge of the computers, not vice versa. After reading a million posts on this subject, I don't know what to do. At least the "Network Setup" wizard on XP, followed by running netsetup.exe on the Win98SE machine, worked initially. What can I do besides run the wizard each time I want to have a network connection!!??!!
