OK... being that I usually come here to answer your questions... here is one from me.
I have a new sys... Dell Optiplex GX280 / 3.2 ghz / 1gb ram / 80gig HDD / win xp pro w/SP2.
Came from Dell with SP2 installed.
We are running McAffee antivi via our SonicWall and McAffee needs to be installed before one can access the internet from our network.
Problem being: To install McAffee MyCIO av scanner, the IE Security settings/Restricted Sites needs to be set to Medium. However, XPSP2 makes the default for this section High.
I can not change the settings off of High without getting a stop error from Windows stating that the settings are defaulted to High and needs to be set at High or Higher.
How/Where do I go to change the defaults for this because it is not letting the ActiveX control download to install the McAffee... No McAffee installed, no internet access.
Uninstall of SP2 is an option, however, I need to find the workaround for this being that we will be deploying it in the (shudder)near future.
I have tried to manually config the settings.. no go.
I have checked for default settings in Policies... not configured in there.
I have checked registry... can't find squat on IE security settings.. all encrypted.
If I had any hair left on my head, I would be pulling it out by now... so, I am turning to y'all.. my fellow guru's...
HEEEeeeeeelllllp meeeeeeee!Scootr

Internet options --> Security Tab --> Custom Level --> Low --> Privacy Tab --> Set to low
Wont let you do this at all?

Have you tried going into the Securities tab under Properties for IE and under Restricted Sites using the Custom button to enable those modules you need to install McAfee. I have SP2 and my Restricted Sites is 'set' to Custom.
I, of course, assume you have Admin rights.
Good Luck

Jake / Doc: I have tried that and that is what I mean by... it won't let me change it... that is where the message comes up saying "must be set at High or Higher".
Under that Tab, the slider is set to High, when you try to pull it down to a lower level that friggin error message comes up. Been tryin most of the day to change it... no luck so far.
I have tried the custom settings, but it doesn't change, it stays at the High setting.
I believe there is some default setting in SP2 that causes that. I just haven't figured out where to go to get rid of that default as of yet!
thanx for the inputs though...keep rackin the brains.

This is a long shot but:
Under Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Local Security Policy go to IP Security Policies on local computer. By default there should only be 3 items showing none of them enabled. See if you've got any enabled or more than 3.
Good Luck
