Ok, so I've just about had it with Vista. So Im contemplating going back to XP. But after I up(down imo)graded to Vista, I installed 2 more gigs of RAM. I know XP only supports 2 or something gigs. So my question is: Considering i have 4 gigs of memory(basically the only reason im still using Vista at the moment), and XP only supports 2, will the other 2 gigs be used in anyway, or are they just useless?

You should get a little over 3Gbs. Exactly how much depends on your hardware. The remainder is used by the system for memory I/O. Or to put it more precisely, the memory addresses are used by the system. The RAM itself is unused and cannot be used.

It's not an XP issue...it's a 32-bit OS issue. If you install 4GB RAM with a 32-bit OS, the amount recognized by the OS will vary dpending on your hardware. It's *usually* between 3.0 - 3.5GB, but in some cases it's less than 3.0GB. Save yourself the hassle & limit your RAM amount to 3GB (2 x 1GB plus 2 x 512MB).

All the above is correct. You might be confused if you happened to have a motherboard that only supported 2GB of RAM. I have seen some around.

You may want to confirm there are XP drivers for your hardware before you remove Vista.
