I connect to a WebFolder by: My Network Places -> Add Network Place and only get read-only access to it. XP does not ask me for an ID or Password. My user is assigned Administrator priviledges. I need to modify documents in this WebFolder. I've read that by default XP will connect you as an Annonymous user and this might explain why I am not asked for an ID or password. Any ideas on how I can get full access to the WebFolder? Thank you.

I think the easiest way to edit the documents in a read-only folder without everyone on here questioning whether or not you really have admin rights is to just copy the file from the Webfolder to your hard drive, rename it...edit it, and copy it back to the folder. That way the original is there just in case it is write protected for a good reason.

I appreciate your response. Unfortunately, your idea will not work because all the directories in the WebFolder show up as Read-Only and I am unable to copy anything in there. I have a proper ID and Password. The issue is that XP does not even give me the option of using them. I just upgraded to XP. I used to be able to do this with Win2000.

If you are using XP Pro, uncheck the "Use Simple File Sharing" box down at the bottom of the Folder Options. This will return the Security tab to the Properties, allowing you to set file and folder permissions just like in W2k.

See XP post 27171 for a way of doing it for the Home version.
