xp/hard drive won't boot

After I put a new motherboard in my pc, it won't boot up w/the old hard drive. I put another drive in and it works. With the old drive, it starts to go through the motions, and then it goes to the screen asking if I want to go into the various safe modes or start windows normally. Regardless of which way I try, a blue screen flashes for an instant with writing on it, but it disappears before I can make any of it out. Any help would be appreciated!

Go into your BIOS, and set CDROM as 1st boot device, put your Xp cd in the drive and reboot.
Once at the setup screen, make like you were doing a fresh install and when you see the "Select partition to install Xp on" message, select the drive/partition Xp is ALREADY on and click OK. You will then see a message along the lines of "Xp already detected on this partition, would you like to repair?" yes, you would!

Ok, once you get to the repair menu, then what? I had actually tried that, but didn't know what to do once I got there.
