Is xpboot.bin the only boot file i need to download for slipstreaming . As some sites i have been put to seem to have what looks like 3 boot files(floppy like icons)
what i did was just a simple drag and drop with all the xp cd files then had to downloaded the xpboot.bin as i could not find it

Goto http://www.nu2.nu/bbie/ and download Bart's Boot Image Extractor. It will let you extract your xpboot.bin file. But it will be named image.bin or something like that.

no what i want to know is after i have copied the xp cd to hdd how many files should there be as the ones i have are

docs
1386
support
valueadd
autorun.inf
readme.htm
setup.exe
win51
win51ip

but on some screenshots there are files with what looks like floppy icons
are these the boot files and if so why dont i have any as i know my xp cd is bootable.anyway i used drag and drop to copy the files i had to the hdd thenafter the sp1 joining with xp bit i had to download the file xpboot.bin(is this the only boot file i need)and burned it with nero with boot selected and all the other correct settings as on neowin.net.


also how can you try it without having to do a reinstall of win xp

To answer your main question yes that is the only boot file you need. The reason some screenshots have the floppy icon is that the person that took the shot has a program that uses .bin files as floppy disk. I've used the program but I can't remember the name of it.

Are the folders and files you listed before or after they've been slipstreamed?

Check out this slipstream how-to it's probably the best I've found
