Anybody know if XP for the 64 bit processor will run on a 32-bit machine?

Why would you want to waste that power on a system that's NOT going to take advantage of it?

Pretty sure it isn't backwards compatible - my son recently bought it for his 64bit machine (It was actually cheaper than the 32bit for some reason) & he's still having problems with finding drivers for his hardware - there were also warnings advising him that it was for 64bit only before installation.

Hi winxp64 is only compatible with cpu,s / pcs 64bit compatible e.g AMD64, intels em64t
however current 32 bit progs will run quite happily on win64 OS.
Drivers for older hardware are as johnr found can be difficult to find/work as not many 3rd part h'ware companies are investing in 64bit, its happening , just slowly. funnliy enough it was as good as given away by M$ , guess that wont last :)

The reason I asked was because I noticed the 64 bit version appeared to be cheaper.

Summary: Sorry to disagree with Beth on this, but most, if not all, USB 2.0 devices I have seen will operate in USB 1.1 slots. They just won't operate at the faster speeds. In fact, here is a blurb off of th...
