Guys,
Im wondering if anyone has a solution to his problem I have.

I have the following problem.

I have bought a AMD XP2400+ CPU for my computer. It runs fine @ 1.5ghz (detected as XP1800+) when M/b is set to 100mhz CPU CLK Freq.

However when I set m/b to 133mhz CPU CLK Freq it detects CPU fine (as XP2400+ 2000ghz). But just after the windows XP startup screen disappears and its about to load the user menu the computer restarts.

I have the following hardware im hoping someone can offer a solution. I have already updated the BIOS and have the Via 4-1 patch for my motherboard.

Motherboard - Giga-byte AMI BIOS GA-7ZXE FA
CPU - AMD XP-2400+ (previous AMD T-Bird 800)
2x 256mb PC133 SD Ram
XP Professional Installed

Thanks in advance guys!

Many will disagree; however, first thing that comes to mind is wimpy power supply. I would run at least a 400w, my guess is you are still running a 300w. Don’t buy from the local CompUsa or LCS, go on line and purchase for 25$-35$.

You may be right, LL, but for whatever its worth, I have my new Asus MB with NvidaNforce2 video card and 2400+ cpu, with 512 MB RAM, plus HD, + CD drive, + 2 fans temporarily housed in an old case with a 250 W power supply. Never thought it would work, but it hums along...

You probably have a high quality PSU that actually runs at 250. Most of the pc's out in last few years have garbage psu's. I think the litmus test is the fact that all runs fine on Rob's machine at the default setting rather than optimal.

250w, though, I am surprised, good for u.

Hi,

I recently installed an amd xp 3000 and had the same problem.

What I had to do is change the jumper settings on the motherboard. By default it had set it to 266 from my old 2000 xp processor and I had to change the pins to read it at 333 fbs.

Worked like a charm.

Good Luck

thanks guys.

I do have a cheap and nasty (300w) PSU.

Someone else has also suggested RAM might be causing it as apparantly I need DDR Ram @ 266mhz + to run this chip @ 2ghz. I currently have branded PC133 installed.

If I disable "Restart on fail" I get the following blue screen.

STOP: 0X0000008E (0XC0000005, OXF808D1C9, OXF808CFD0, OX00000000

Anyone translate that?
