Please help.
When i first installed XPH, i always received the message 'it's now safe to turn off your computer' when using either 'hibernate' or 'shut down'. It always worked without a prob. These days, the PC just re-starts regardless what command i use. I normally end up 'force' switching it off (which can't be a good thing).
Can anyone help? Do i need to adjust my default settings or something?
Thanx everyone.
OOA.

you have to have AMP or ACPI enabled on your motherboard for the machine to auto shutdown, then you also need spome reg tweaks. email me and i'll send them on if you like

Thanx everyone. Prob solved.
Not sure though if it was the 'enabling' of ACPI or uninstalling Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum (as Microsoft suggests) that did it. I may install NERO instead as i do a lot of CD stuff & have come to rely on
ECDC5P.

Since I upgraded from Win 98 to Win 2000 my CPU just won't shut down unless I do it manually. When I shut down Windows everything shuts down and the screen goes blank, except for the CPU....Why is this and what can I do to fix the problem? Thanks

Hi Andie,

Although your question might be more @ home in the Windows2000 forum, I found this response at the Microsoft website:

Configuring Shutdown Options

Shutting the Computer off After Shutdown
Some users, the author included, think it's a nuisance to have to shut off the computer after telling Windows 2000 to shut down the computer. A Registry entry is available to change this default behavior. Use a value of 1 in the PowerdownAfterShutdown entry to automatically power down the computer after entering the choosing Shutdown from the Logon dialog box.

Root Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

Key: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Entry: PowerdownAfterShutdown

Data Type: REG_SZ
