ok so like i try to install , windows XP , Or Windows 2000 , and it keeps coming up with missing files , so when i finally get windows 2000 or XP i cant install anything , cuz of the soo many dll's missing it keeps saying s--- like files are corrupt.
but Windows 98 , and Red Hat 9 installs fine, i cant figure out why ,
heres wat ive changed to see if its hardware fault:
1. I changed CDROM drive thats reasombley new
2. i borrowed my mates Brand new XP disc which was still in the freaking unvelope thing
3. changed motherboards this looked like it helped , however it keeped btiching about my video card (blue screen o death )when i got half way through the reinstall, Radeon 9600 pro and a TNT2 .
4. changed the harddrive to another computer and succefully installed with both 2000 and xp, put it in the computer that is f---ed and it boots up says loading xp and sits there for 4 hours , i assumed it wasnt going to work
5.changed the cords connecting the cdromm and hardrive to the motherboard.
6. found a WIN98 Startup CD (not floppy, a CD [not the install disk a startup disk]) fdisked the harddrive including the MBR removed Motherboard battery for 30secs and re -fdisked the lot again
7. tried using an overlay
8. installed windows 2000 (cudnt install anything , not even SP4) made a 1GB parition and stuck the install files on the harddrive and tried installing like that.
9. tried a different HARDDRIVE
------------apart from the floppy drive the only thign i havent changed is the freaking cpu ???
now i have reinstalled xp on there twice before and it worked absolutely fine.
anyone know if theres some virus or soemthing completely obvious that i completely missed ???
ive been tryign to work it out for a week , personally im happy with linux on it , but my dad wants xp "son im 52 years old , iam not going to relearn unix" ,"linux dad ...." , "i dont care i just want XP"
So im stuck with trying to install XP , i think tis a virus and i have to flash my bios but then i already tried i different motherboard that seemed good apart from the video card problems .
any thoughts would help

I would try to get my hand on Gdisk.exe
and wipe that HDD clean. This link will explain what it can do and the switches you can use.
