I am having trouble with my cd drives... Today I noticed an orange light on my cdrw, so I went into 'my computer' to see if Windows thought it was working correctly. Well, to my suprise, neither my cd rom nor my cdrw were listed there. I havent made any software changes or anything, I have no idea what could have caused this.
So then, I go to the HP site, and I find my problem (or so I thought). I followed the directions, which told me to delete one thing in my registry. I HATE doing that, I'm quite paranoid ;) But I did, then my computer would not boot (yay!). I unhooked both drives from the mother board in slight panic, and it booted just fine.
I made a backup of my reg before I went deleting, loaded that up, and it still has this problem. It will boot, it just sits at the 'Compaq' screen for a LONG time. This, of course, worries me. And I would like to use my drives :(
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this. At the lagging Compaq screen, if I try & go to settings or boot or whatever, it won't. It goes to a black screen, w/ a blinking cursor at the top, and what you wanted to go to is written at the bottom of the screen (yet you are not there). I just don't get this!

Are you using Roxio EasyCreator 5? There is a fix for exactly what you describe.
Something in the program corrupts a registry
setting.

No, I am using HP Record Now. Its weird cause it wont recognize any of my drives (regular & cdrw). I think my sister is having this problem too.
