After upgrade Windows XP doesn't recognize blank disk. Reads commercial music and program cd's. Tried different types and brands of cds, updated drivers, different burning programs, etc.

What CD burner software do you have installed? Doesn't matter how many brand types you've tried, this will need to be upgraded to an XP compatible version.
If no 3rd party burner application is installed and XP still doesn't see the burner, then try updating the device drivers for your CD Burner.
Make sure you have fully uninstalled and removed registry entries for 3rd party applications.
