Ok,so my DVD drive was messed up,so i decided to make it my slave drive and make my CD burner the Master, once I swiched them,my computer came up with a error message before loading windows saying "damaged or missing file with system32" or somthn like that, and i went to repair windows through a repair installation but as the CD was loading,it said there was a error code 4 and that setup could not continue, then i tryed reformating my harddrive but it still did the same thing when i tryed to install XP,so i tryed to install my Windows ME disk and it wont install ither.

Please it is important i get some help for this, its my only computer to do my school work on,thanks.

Perhaps the CD itself is damaged.

Hi.
Did you format using fat32 option? I dont think M.E. works on NTFS.

"so my DVD drive was messed up"

Exactly what does this mean? If the drive is faulty then switching the master/slave settings is unlikely to help. What with al the attempts at installing you've done and failed formatting there is little liklihood you can recover anything of the old operating system or files.
Does your system have a floppy drive? If so then disconnect your optic drives and get a 98 or ME bootdisk. Boot to floppy and use FDISK to delete all current harddrive partitions. Create a new partition and format the drive. If it cannot format the drive from a bootfloppy then your harddrive might have a problem. You need to tell us exactly what you try and exactly what error messages you get.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

Sorry fellas,it turns out it was because while i was switching the drives,i was looking at my ram then messed it up...although,afterwords once i got it running again,it wasnt picking up all my ram,so i tryed reinstalling it all,and once i got to my last stick,my computer is like, making weird clicking noises, and wont even show the bios screen, then just turns off,and my power supply is making a weird smell...i think i need a new power supply :X
