I am in desperate need of some help. I cant get xp to boot. It wont boot into any of the safe modes and keeps returning to a blue screen with the windows xp logo on it, and then wont go any further to the desktop. I cant use the xp disk as it came pre-installed on the pc. I backup my files often, but would like to be able to access the files as the last backup I did was last week and i have important information on the system. Any help appreciated!

Going back to a good restore point .

Start the computer and then press the F8 key when Windows begins to start.
The Windows Advanced Options menu appears.
Use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most
recent settings that worked), and then press ENTER.
If a boot menu appears, use the ARROW keys to select Microsoft Windows XP,
and then press ENTER. Windows XP restores the computer to the most recent
restore point.

As you don't have the xp cd , I would be inclined to take the HD out & slave it to another comp .

Or if you have another HD with any operating system on , cable it to your comp , make it master & the xp HD slave .

No need to bolt them in , just leave hanging outside the case .

Now get your info , before trying to sort out XP .

If XP is fat32 you will be OK to use with W9x/ME .
If NTFS , you will need a reader , unless of course the the other drive has XP/NTFS .

Get your info 1st & go from there .

Going to bed now , someone else may be able to help , if more is required .

thanks for the info.
Is there anyway of getting the damn thing to boot up properly in the first place, its frustrating that it will go so far and then stop, and not even into safe mode

cheers

I am having the same problem, and I have the CD....... I cant get it to work even doing a repair. I wish I could get into SAFE MODE....would love to get into MSCONFIG and un-check all my startup items. If any one has any suggestions would love to hear it.
