Can you run clam av on the xp drive from ubuntu?

Any xp disk could be used to "repair" (well almost a retail version is best) and even use tools like sfc.exe. Might consider making a barts or ubcd4win with tools like that and system restore. Viewing the event viewer logs would help too.

See this if you want to copy it off using linux and move to another machine. (might be able to view in wine)

i cant access anything off ubuntu, to my knowledge (tried)
The only thing i am concerned about is my music which half is on xp and half is on a external drive. If theres any way to get that easily please say.

I also noticed in the BOIS settings or something it was set to boot off a external drive, i changed it to hard drive.. nothing =\

Which is why you can't use Ubuntu. You have to be able to boot from CD to use any Linux distro. Without that (or a XP CD), you're going to have a tough time getting to your data unless you physically remove the internal drive and somehow get it working on another machine...

When you boot into ubuntu , what happens when you try to mount XP partition ? error messages are important. I do not use ubuntu but Mepis and SuSe will auto mount a XP partition.

It just tells me xp is unable to boot correctly, it might be because of a software or hardware change

Ive tried safe mode, safe mode with network & terminal also. and all the other options. it just reboots.

Ok heres what i get on start up.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. a recent hardware or software change might have caused this.

If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose last known good configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.

if a previous start up was interrupted due to a power failure or because the reset button was pressed, or if you are not sure that caused the problem, choose start windows normally.

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Last known settings that worked

Start Windows normally
