Hi,
Looking for some help
I have a family members old PC here which had Windows XP on it but for some it was corrupt and wont start windows at all. All you get it these white lines going across the screen. (its not the screen as the tower is only with me and my monitor works fine)
So i am trying to reinstall windows and have changed it to boot from CD but it wont do it. It sees the CD as it says to boot from CD push any key but i'm pushing every key and thats not working. But the keyboard is working as i used it to change the BIOS to boot to a CD.
I have also managed to get to the safe mode screen but again the keyboard will not let me change this to 'last known'
I have tried an old ps2 keyboard but the pc wont see that and have tried 2 usb ones but to no avail.
Any help would be great

my guess the CD itself is faulty.. maybe its not a bootable cd.. try another bootbale XP cd..
Regards,
Shamil

How to obtain Windows XP Setup boot disks
That is for if XP CD is non-bootable.

PS/2 keyboards are NOT hot swappable. Did you connect when under power? Can you enter the BIOS by using the keyboard? If so, then the CD is the problem. If not, then the keyboard may be the problem.
USB keyboards do not automatically work in the start up screens. There is a setting in the BIOS to use legusy USB devices which must be enabled. You can't get to that setting with a USB keyboard.
