Hi All,
I resized my laptop's XP Home partition with Partition Magic.
Near the end of the process it turned up an error, demanded reboot and then Windows would not start.

Tried booting into safe mode, and all other options but it just returns to the same screen offering Safe Mode etc.

Also tried inserting the XP Home install cd and switching PC on to attempt a repair but it doesn't run the disk. Just returns to same screen as before even though CD-ROM is listed as first boot device in the BIOS.

thanks in advance for all the help

What process did you follow to resize the partition? Exact steps would be helpful.

If your CD isn't booting, then you need to watch the screen carefully during post. There may be a function key you need to press in order to boot to the CD.

One thing you could try would be to boot to the Partition Magic installation CD, and try running pgmagic from the CD.

Try running the recovery option from the XP CD and then do fixboot and fixmbr.

well i downloaded partition magic and i used the unused space in my 80g hardrive to make another primary partition that would be 25gigs. i followed the instructions in the wizard until it told me i had to reboot and i did. then a blue screen came up with the progress of the partitioning. i waited about 2 hours to go back and check and there was some sort of error (stupidly i didnt write down the number) which told me to reboot. i did and it took me to the screen that gave me like 5 choices on how i want to start up windows. when i choose START WINDOWS NORMALLY and LAST GOOD WORKING CONFIGURATION it takes me to the xp loading screen but then 2 seconds later it will restart the computer and take me back to the choices, and if i choose any other choices it just automatically restarts. i tried changing the boot order so that it loads from the cd first but it doesnt work, i even disabled every other option, but the cd drive and it still didnt work, there would just be this underscore symbol on the top left blinking and it will stay like that until i restart. so there is no key to press to load the cd
and i dont have a partion magic cd i got it online.
