i installed windows xp pro corporate 2004, and when it rebooted after copying the file in setup, it started to boot, but then when it got to where the windows booting logo is supposed to be it freezes and there are a couple solored numbers scattered on the screen, this was done on a 1 TB HD seagate barracuda, please help

Re-install the operating system again. This time partition the drive to a smaller partition ( I don't like partitions bigger than 100 gigs or so...just personal)
If it still happens then google for memtest 86 and follow the instruction to download it and prepare it for the media type you need for this computer...floppy or cd...
adjust your BIOS to boot to the proper media type and boot to the disc...allow it to run and check your memory sticks. You need no operating system to run memtest...if it finds any errors at all replace the guilty stick!

i have tried reinstallin alread, and i know it not the memory because, ive had windows vista on here for awhile, and i used to have xp mce. But i got a new seagate sata drive, and i installed xp and the screen goes corrupt on the boot and if i take the cd out and try to boot it just sits there with a blinking cursor in the top left.

lurkswithin is probably right on target here. Reinstall XP, but instead of trying to install using the entire drive, format a chunk of the drive to install the XP to. (Less than 127 GB: 130048 MB) You can always resize the partition using a third-party partition manager after XP is running. Alternatively, you can use the built-in Disk Management to create a blank partition with the remainder of the drive space for your data.

well, i did try a new partition at that exact size actually, thats what xp had as default, and then i reinstalled, and i still get the same problem, could it maybe maybe be my radeon hd 4870, i don't think it would be but, with the weird colored text on the screen it might be. but what do i do

If WinXP showed a default of 127GB there are two possible causes.
First is the hard drive properly identified by model and capacity in the start up screens?
Second, does your installation CD include at least service pack one?
Both the BIOS and the OS must be 48 bit LBA compliant in order for the 1TB drive to work properly. If the BIOS doesn't see the drive properly then you may need to use a controller card.
If the BIOS does see the drive correctly then installing any service pack will allow the full use of the drive. However, once Windows has been installed on the smaller partition you would need to use a third party partition re-sizer to make the boot partition larger.
I would recommend multiple partitions on a drive that size. Look at the links below for information on 48 bit LBA and partitioning strategies.
Going to disk management should allow access to the remaining unformatted space.
The fact that RAM worked with a prior OS is no absolute assurance it will work with the current OS.
Also, you may have bumped the RAM in the process of installing the new drive. Reseat the RAM and run memtest86.

well i just gave up and put vista on here, vista worked perfectly. my bios does see thed rive correctly, and xp was with sp2. yoiu can still give me a response because i still want xp on here.
