HELP ME!
I bought new hard disk and try to install XP on it ,but the install never asks product key!! XP install succesfully but install time is only 40min?? When i first time install XP with 98se the install time was 1hour!! Is install perfect even product key asking??
Second problem i try to install with 98se boot disk with smart driver.exe ,ok setup asks normaly dc keyn but when i check the propeties of partion C: i get next information Size of C: partition is 2,92Gt
and free diskspace is 482Mt Thats ok!!
But when i look sizes of folders in C: i get information like this:
Documents and settings 48,2Mt
Program files 256Mt
Windows 1,01Gt
NVidia drivers 10,9Mt

total is 1,3251Gt
So how how it is possible?? I have used 2,483Gt disk space but i only have
1,3251Gt files in C:!!!!!
HELP ME WHAT I SHOUD DO??

upgrading from 98 to XP takes over an hour. (70+ minutes)

clean install is 39 minutes.

it doesn't work that way. you can't highlight and select all of the folders and expect to have all the space used on your hard drive accounted for.

As for asking for the CD key... You didnt say where you obtained your copy of XP from.
Some of the corporate/business versions of XP I've seen dont ask for the CD Key (I've seen W2K versions which dont either). Some of the bootleg versions of XP have the CD Key removed also.
However if you bought this legit from a shop I agree its kinda odd.

For best results, always do a clean install. If you put the XP cd in your drive and your BIOS is set to boot from a CD, it will let you repartition and reformat your HDD then do a clean install. You will lose everything on the drive however!
