Please help! Am using Windows XP, everything was going fine, untill last night. I was online (Broadband) and it crashed, so I tried to restart it but nothing happened, had to unplug from wall to get it to turn off. Now it will not turn on, nothing boots up, monitor is blank and is in standby. What is going on?? someone was saying it may be in sleep mode? fans whir but jack all else happens! (PC Tiny) can't get any info about computer as it won't turn on!! any help would be great before I return to using macs!!

Well if you are not seeing ANYTHING (no BIOS POST screen even)then you have a hardware problem. Since the fan goes the PSU is working. Are there any warning beeps? Do the disk lights flash? Is there any activity at all when you switch on, ie. is it maybe your monitor that is at fault (if it is working it should display some sort of message saying something like "monitor is working - no signal from PC".
Assuming its not the monitor, and if it were my PC I'd then open up the case and check for loose connections, loose chips etc. and that the CPU fan is working in case it stopped and the CPU melted but you will probably not want to do that so then your only option is to get off the nearest repair shop I'm afraid.

Thanks, lights come on keyboard then go out. Don't think I will risk opening it up! Would this have anything to do with a virus? or corrupt program? Monitor does not say anything, no bleeps or sounds coming from anywhere. Will get it to a repair shop asap!! thanks

Yes, I think shop is the answer to this one - needs someone "hands on". Won't be a virus or software problem except remote possibility of a virus that has infected your BIOS. Other virii need the system to boot before they can do anything. BIOS virus is unlikely I think but would still need expert attention.
