Th eproblem, I didnt get a CD rom with my HP, I ve tried the system recovery which comes back with an error saying memeory management. The only thing Hp said to do is to reformat my hard drive that will erase all my data. Is there any thing else I can do?? Can I take the PC to a service center and have them try to fix it a xp cd rom or can I try win 98?? I'm Totally lost here, and my wife will Kill me for losing all of her pics the last six months.

Without a full XP CD then you say it is impossible to do a RECOVERY on the HP.

It appears that you have a second PC, by virtue of this message.

Take the Hard Drive out of the 'non operational' system: install it into the working system.

Copy all you data files, MP3s, Pictures and whatever else across to the Hard disk of the working system

Stick the Hard Drive back in the HP and then format the hard drive using:
format c:\ /u

Then run the system recovery CD.

You can copy all you files back across afterwards.

Sorry to hear that. My system had the same errors twice. I used microsoft knowledge base article Q307545 how to recover from a corrupted registry. It worked. Unfortunatley for me I had a dodgy hard drive and had to replace it. Good luck
