I got an error message on Norton System works saying something about quarantine and to uninstall and then reinstall system works. So I uninstalled Norton SW and the comp restarted, but went to a black screen saying that something was lost and it gave me options such as restart in safe mode, last good know config. and restart normally. i tried restart normally and it goes to a blue screen that doesn't stay on long enough for me to read it but i got IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL then it says some other stuff and at the bottom like 3 messages with tons of zeros, like this "0x0000000000" and other stuff.....i cant read the screen because it goes by too fast. it will not let me revert to last know good, i put it in safe mode and i dont know what to do anyway...i think that i have to somehow get norton back in the computer, but i cant do that it safe mode, and when im in safe mode, i cant install any programs anyway....i seriously have no clue what im doing and i just cannot get windows to start in anything but safe mode...i tried reverting back to other dates, and it goes though the process, but when it starts up, the same stuff happens, i get the black screen, i press start windows normally, then the blue screen comes up, then the black one comes up again...then ill get a message that it cannot revert to whatever date i picked...my computer did not come with a winxp installation disk. help please...

Try to go into safe mode and uninstall any new drivers, updates that you've installed recently and see if it works or not

Reboot into safe mode. Click Start/Run and type regedit. Then navigate to the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE: Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Run
Delete every key value listed there. Also delete every value under the other run keys. DO NOT delete the "run" key itself, but the contents inside it. Reboot. It should start in normal mode at which time you can correctly remove system works. Refer to Symantec for detailed instructions.

ok, i go to run and i get about 25 things under it, but none of them are key values, it just says value name and value data...am i supposed to delete the data? its a whole bunch of words and stuff that i dont understand....but if i double click run, under it is optional components and under that is IMAL,MAPI,MSFS....does that mean anything? ugh

i was using a logitech mouse, but i have a laptop and i just stuck the mouse in and not a driver, or if i did, i dont remember...i did a search on the computer for logitech and i found one thing saying the driver wasnt compatible with windows xp....but i cant find the driver on the computer.....isnt this great? its like i am 5 and you guys are trying to teach me physics....i feel like an idiot, but i am so confused!

Don't get worried, that's what we're here for!
You click Start and then click Run. Type in Regedit and hit enter. Hit the plus "+" sign next to HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE and then hit the plus sign next to software and then the plus sign next to microsoft and so on.
HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE/software/microsoft/windows/current version/run.
Once you get to run, single click it and delete all the entries that appear in the right window by right clicking it and clicking delete. ALL OF THEM.
BEFORE you restart the computer, click start and right clcik "my network places" then right click your internet conection and click properties . Open the Advanced tab and make sure that windows firewall is enabled. Restart the computer.
Now right click My Computer and click Manage. Double click device manager and look for any exclamation point and/or question marks in yellow. This indicates a driver is missing or the device is not working properly. Right click the item and then click properties. From there you want to check the drivers and see if there are any updates. click the driver tab and then click Update driver. Always use automatic unless you actually have a CD for the device. If this does not install an update then right click the device and click uninstall. This will reconfigure it once windows reboots.
Now try to open Internet Explorer and then clcik on tools and then windows update. Instead of using the express install option use the Custom Install. When it completes, install any of the driver updates it finds as well as any critical updates. Reboot if needed.
Now deal with Sytemworks. As I stated before, if the Add/Remove feature does not uninstall systemworks then you will have to do in manually. Symantec.com has details on how to do this. Once done, reinstall it and you should (hopefully) be good. CHEERS!
