I am having an odd problem. When I click Reboot, my system will reboot without a problem. When I Click Shutdown, my system will say shutting down and then a blue screen appears with info and then disappears just as quick and then the system boots back up again. I CAN NOT shut this system down! Once the system comes back up it says that the system has recovered from a serious error.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks...

try a registry cleaner like Eusing Free Registry Cleaner...

otherwise just hold in the power button for 3 - 4 seconds... :)

Thanks for the help. I used that registry cleaner and found quite a few problems. Unfortunatly it did not fix the problem. Still not shutting down.

open System Properties (right-click My Computer -> Properties), click the advanced tab and then beside where it says Startup and Recovery click Settings... In the new window, under System Failure uncheck Automatically restart... Hit ok and then shut down the pc. this time hopefully if you get the blue screen you'll be able to read it without the pc restarting straight away. post back with the error message for further help...

Here is what I got with the Blue Screen:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

If this is the first time....

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed...

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software...

Technical Information:
*** STOP: 0x0000000A (0x000000B0, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x804EF3EE)

Beginning dump of physical memory.
Physical dump complete.
Contact your system...

Hope this helps. There is almost nothing installed on this system and there hasn't been anything installed recently.

Thanks again for your help!

Can you try restarting the machine and when you get the bios screen, just before the xp loading screen, press F8. you should get a list of options, select Last Known Good Configuration. Windows will load and then see if you can shut down normally...
