Comment:

How do I get rid of that welcome screen and let the computer boot right to the desktop without having to choose a user or put in a password??? The only two options I see in Control Panel is the "Welcome Screen" or the "Classic" which according to the CP wants you still to put in a password. All I want to do is turn on the computer and have it boot right up to the desktop. Any help is welcome.
Thanks

On any XP machine I've set up with a single user (I've never bothered with a password) it boots straight to the desktop. It only shows the welcome screen for a few seconds as it boots.

Open the user accounts menu, and 'change the way users log on and off'. You can turn off the welcome screen.

Thanks for the info'.

I'm assuming that I will not be prompted to set up a password unless I choose to do so?

In Control Panel,
click User Accounts,
then "Change the way users log on or off",
check mark both items.

Also to say if you have Guest Account showing at
Log on, then turn it off.

In User Accounts,
click Guest Account,
then click "Turn off Guest Account".

If you already have a password, you will need to remove it in order to get straight to Windows.

Clarity

If you already have a password, you will need to remove it in order to get straight to Windows. Otherwise you will be prompted to enter your password.
