Hi,
After unsucessfully trying a fresh install from CD - on a brand new hard disk I might add - I installed windows 98se and tried to upgrade (this was also to verify that there were no HD probs). Typically, the same problem arose. From cd, the setup gets as far as trying to start windows then hangs. When trying the upgrade, the install seems to get further in windows but after a restart it hangs at the same place. This happens from both a CD and drive install. At the hanging point the keyboard lights all the system keys once as if to reboot but this doesn't happen. No further disk activiy apparent and only a faint repetitive flash on the HD active light.

First off, don't upgrade, it'll cause you more problems. Go with the fresh install.
Second, strip the machine down to it's bare minimum. Remove network cards, sound cards, modems, if you have more than one stick of RAM remove them. Then try again.
