XP Upgrade Error - Compartible Drive oN

I have ME Installed on my computer and I am trying to upgrade to XP home. During Set-up I get the following Error Message - "Set-up Di not find any compartible drive on this computer " and then freezes. I must mentioned I had Win2000 Installed Before with dual Boot and i removed the 2000 because i want only XP and a single boot.
What Can i do to Instal XP without losing my files and programs. Thanks

change boot order to cd in bios and boot from the winxp cd.instead of running setup in Win me.
