XP updates scan won't work

I'm trying to scan for updates on the microsoft site and I keep getting an error saying to check my date and time on my taskbar. The date/time is fine. I've also searched the KB and found that they say check the internet explorer languages, which is also fine as well as unchecking the "check for server certificate revocation" which didn't help. Anyone run into this or anyone have ideas? I just repaired Window XP and reloaded IE 6.0 SP1 and then was going to run the updates.

Was the year correct? If you have the wrong year, the updates don't work.

Try it without your Firewall running, that cured my problem.

If the firewall has an AD BLOCKER feature, such as the one in ZONE ALARM, make sure this is turned OFF, because the blocking script seems to think that the Windows Update page is an AD! Do not turn off your Firewall for obvious reasons!
