XP turns back on after shut down. Why?

Hi.
I have a new computer. I'm not sure which of the specs are important other then my OS is Win XP but it's an Athlon 1800 (Gigabyte mb) with about a gig of ram.
I'm running windows xp and I'm pretty sure my problem is a software thing.
Frequently after I power down using the windows exit, I will wake up in the morning and my machine will be on again. My fire wall is showing an alert asking if I want to give Win32 access to the internet. This only happens when I don't actually kill the power on the back of my tower. There are two power switches, the one on the back and a reset on the front.
Why does it power back up again after I shut it down?

Sounds like possibly a motherboard problem. If you can, borrow another motherboard and toss it in.

I had a similar problem when XP first came out and I tried to use directCD before it was updated.
What was happening to me was that on shutdown my computer (unknown to me) would have a bluescreen crash but the default XP setting is to restart by itself after such a system failure.
Perhaps some of your software is crashing and is being hidden by an automatic restart?
To access this setting go Start-Control Panel-System-Advanced-Startup and Recovery settings-Automatically restart.
Good Luck

turn off your WakeOnLAN option on the MB and any other power up options on the MB

If you use Roxio EZ-CD Creator 5 Platinum and don't have the latest patches it will cause this problem. Go to www.roxio.com to get the latest patch (Rev D) I believe.
