there may be an upgrade you can buy
i believe that when you install xp it reformats the hd to its needs

there is an upgrade from home to pro i didn't shop around. but i saw one price at $158 i would think that this upgrade would allow you to keep your files you can also just backup your important data to disk or another hd and clean install xp pro if it is more economical

I already have the PRO version - I attemptted to run it and saw what looked like I was about loose everything previously installed (so I reluctant to proceed without advice)if I continue.
