there is an upgrade from home to pro
i didn't shop around.
but i saw one price at $158
i would think that this upgrade would allow you to keep your files
you can also just backup your important data to disk or another hd and clean install xp pro if it is more economical

I already have the PRO version - I attemptted to run it and saw what looked like I was about loose everything previously installed (so I reluctant to proceed without advice)if I continue.
