XP takes forever to boot

I installed XP a clean install, it takes forever to boot or do anything and keeps on freezing......I have 512 Mb and athlon processor, any advice

try to remove all add-on cards like sound, network, etc... or disable these cards when booting in safe mode (F8). See what happens.

There also is a tool from microsoft called Bootvis. It shaves a considerable amount of time off of the boot time.
