I am trying to do a system restore, the checkbox is unchecked that says Turn off system restore but whenever I click on a restore point it goes throufg the process but then says it can't be done as no restore points are available. What has happened to the auto restore point?

Regards

Pat

A few months ago, the same thing happened to me. I cured the problem by disabling System Restore (which deletes all its restore points), rebooted the box, then re-enabled SR.

XP is designed to create a new restore point automatically every 24 hours.

How do you get System Restore to create restore points at set intervals? This PC runs 24/7 - last restore point I have is 17/04 when I re-booted after Windows updates. I don't particularly want points every 24 hours, but once a week would be nice :-)

On average, automatic restore points are created once every 24 hours. As far as specifying how often to make a restore point, research didn't turn up a thing; I'm not sure you can.

Looks like it's either XP's way, or nothing. 8-)

PS Of course, you can manually create a restore point any time you like.

see dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_sysrestorepoint.htm. It allows you to put a point creator on the desktop or wherever.

You can also designate how much space is allocated to the System Restore. I don't think it makes one every 24 hours though... might need to check up on that.

Once I thought I was wrong, now I'm not so sure!
