xp system restore replace

I have been having trouble with system restore on my computer. It will only go back for about 8 hour then it doesn't work anymore. It say system can not be restored to the selected point. I am useing 12% of a 160G hard drive. My question is can I disable XP system restore and install 2005 Norton system works with Norton go back with out causeing a conflick with easch other. I run go back on my window 2000 pro at work and it works great. If this can not be done any ideal on how to fix system retore would be appriated as I have done everthing I can find on the internet and on the Microsoft sight. srmotorsparts

Yes Goback should work fine if you disable System Restore.
Have you tried disabling SR and deleting all of the restore files? If not, its worth a shot. To do this disable RS and delete all of the files inside the "System Volume Information" folder. It will be in the root of the drive Xp is installed on. It is a hidden folder so a quick way to get into it is to type C:\System Volume Information in the Explorer address bar.

GoBack is a system resource hog and can cause many problems. Run it long enough an it will comsume your whole HD. Funny how I was just pushing another symantic product, Ghost, now I am dissing one.

Using System Restore too many times can cause more harm than good. After doing a restore that does not fix a problem, then UNDO the Restoration, and try another restore point.
