The real problem I'm having is that, for some reason, after installing a firewall, Windows Messenger stopped working, and I can't check my hotmail through an internet browser (only with Outlook or something). Although the port for windows messenger was open, it still wouldn't work. So, I unstalled the firewall, but... still, it's not working.
Now I try to use WIndows XP System Restore, and it doesn't work. No matter what date I attempt to restore from, it always fails upon reboot. I can take a screenie of the failed System Restore screen on startup if it'd help.
This's very frustrating. The sooner the problem's fixed, the better. Thanks.

looks like repair time;
start your computer by using the Windows Setup floppy disks or the Windows CD-ROM.
at the "Welcome to Setup" screen, press F10 or press R to repair, and start the Windows
Recovery Console.
