Comment:

This isn't a problem of mine, but I thought I'd help my buddy by asking for him, considering that he can't access his comp right now...

When booting up, he gets something in the lines of "Please activate Windows to continue".

He then clicks ok (or next, or continue, whatever) and gets "Windows already activated". Got another "ok" button and that reboots the whole thing...

This isn't a new installation. It looks like it happened over night, just suddenly like that.

Any ideas?

Smumdax, since it occurred all of a sudden, my first thought is some sort of nasty. Think the first thing I'd try is a scan and go from there.

Nasty? Nasty what? virus? power outage corrupting system files? Spyware? Something else?

Ok, do a scan.. what type of scan? And most importantly, how if I can't boot in? Maybe by turning power off while in these screens? Doing that normally brings up a scandisk windows saying it didn't shut down properly.. however, many times I've had power outage, and that screen never appeared to me... in fact, I think it didn't appear since I've got XP...

Please put in some more details about what you are suggesting. And thanks are in order to!

I can e-mail you a fix for that problem. Reply if you want it. You apply ir by going to Safe Mode, and running it from there.

ray96: Please, how about explaining what your "fix" is about? I'm not really into disclosing my email to anyone, especially if they want to send me an exe or that sort of things. ;)

But I got to mention one thing. I didn't double-check this, but my buddy told me he couldn't even go into Safe mode.. that surprised me of course, but that's how it is.. so?

OK, you CAN go into safe mode if it's safe mode ONLY, NO Safe Mode w/ Networking, or safe mode w/ command prompt. Just plain SAFE MODE. I have a program that I downloaded that will fix the activation problem. It is 100% virus free. All you have to do is run the executable, and click Apply / Fix. Is it ok if I send it to you? All I have to do is click your name and i've got your address.

Well... you could try and click my email ;)

I'll email you instead.

Could you explain why I (my buddy infact) have this problem? I don't like solving without understanding.

Ok people, I thought I'd drop by and let you know what happened since my last post here.

Well, first, I got the fix from Ray96.
Didn't use it. Why? Because my friend, who I now qualify as dumb, used the wrong XP cd when trying to activate...!!

When I called him and said that I had managed to get a fix and we should try it... he explained that to me... man, this was such a waste of time. At least, when someone gets the same prob, I'll be able to solve without wasting my time.

Thanks for helping.
