When i turn on my computer I get the windows splash screen, then a blue screen that says Please Wait, followed by dots. The Windows logo is in the top right corner. Windows stays at this screen for a few minutes, then it goes to the log in screen..Then After i log on a windows file protection window pop up before an insert disk window... I am running Windows XP Pro SP2.

Apparently, an important system file must have been overwritten or the System File Protection prompt wouldn't have popped up. I suggest you insert your Windows CD to have that corrected.

Do that and Start - Run - type: cmd (click OK) Expand the black window. (this allows more room for any possible error messages) type: sfc /scannow (press Enter) (a space between sfc and /)
System file checker will compare essential Windows files to those on your Windows CD and will replace any found to be missing or corrupted.
However, this only works if the Windows CD has SP2 updates included on it.

If that dosent work you can always boot in safe mode or from a install CD and restore a recover point from before you had the problem
