I have received a STOP: 0x00000007B error, and XP will not load in any format. Message indicates Windows was shut down to prevent damage to computer. Screen directions are to remove newly installed drives (there are no new ones), check for viruses (have full time up to date NAV running) and run chkdsk /f. Chkdsk can't be run in DOS mode. XP had been running superbly till then with exception of CR-RW errors. Was trying to update East CD Creator Platinum when system halted and had to restart. Any ideas. Can't reload build 2600 from command line.

Your best chance is to "repair" the installation of XP, Use the CD and boot to it, start off my doing install options as if you were doing a full install, after a bit you'll get the option to "repair installation". Do that,... it may fix your problem and on the plus side, you won't lose settings like desktop wallpaper and such, but you may need to reinstall some software.

Thanks, I discovered the boot CD repair option after I mailed the help message, and I have everything restored. Now, if I could only determine why I had to do the re-install.
